The Joy of Choosing, 1980. 30 minute Video. People of different ages and occupations, particularly men and women who have made nontraditional choices and decisions, talk about their career decisions, their hopes, dreams, and options.

The reality of change discussed in relation to career options and changing roles in both work and family; and the impact of teachers, counselors, and parents on adapting to that change. Each lesson is independent and may be taught in correlation with a career unit, or all ten lessons may be used sequentially.

Exploring Career Pathways: a Guide for Students and Their Families, Iowa Department of Education, Tech prep Model Framework Project; 1997. This booklet is designed to help students make an initial career pathway decision and then select appropriate school courses to prepare for that pathway.

Towards a Challenging Future: A Practitioner?s Guide for Student Career Exploration in New York State, 1996. The purpose of this resource is to provide leadership information for educators of Tech Prep/School-to-Work/Career Development activities. It can be used with teachers, administrators, students, parents, community groups and businesses and industries for enhancement of career opportunities and for the development of programs which ensure equity for all students and to help bring about far-reaching and lasting changes. It is divided into 5 sections: equity awareness, guidance & counseling, staff development, curriculum development and resources.

Consider A Nontraditional Job, 1991. 21 minute video. An upbeat recruitment video targeted toward adult women shows female role models in rural Montana working as phone installers, construction laborers, and truck drivers. Viewers learn what the work is like, what type of work environment can be expected, and the benefits and barriers of pursuing a nontraditional job. Plus, employers and union representatives share their positive experiences working with women in nontraditional jobs.
